Today, I am going to share with all of you my testimony about how God has changed my life.
I came to church in 2002, when I was just 9 years old. I did not really know God then and the reasons I went to church were just to play games and receive the weekly gifts that the Children’s church used to give.
As I entered my teenage years, I was then transferred from Children’s church to a youth cell group. My cell group leader then was Amber Tan. My cell group members treated me very well and often helped me in every way that they could, in every area of my life. They poured out their love generously on me. That was when I told God that I want to be like the people in church and be a source of blessing to others.
Our Christian walk, however, is not a bed of roses. We will still encounter setbacks and failures from time to time. When I was 17, I had to take my O level examination, which was a key examination for Singaporean students to progress in their academics. Upon getting back my results for O levels, I was extremely disappointed and felt all my hopes crashed. I failed my English, which was needed for me to enter a polytechnic. I was very discouraged and wondered why God would allow me to go through all these as I already did my best for the examinations. During this period of time, my leaders and Amber were always there for me, comforting me, and showing me that they and my cell group were constantly supporting and praying for me. I made a decision to leave everything, including my future, to God and to trust that His ways are higher than mine.
Praise God! Truly, God knows His children’s desires. As the bible mentions, when a child asks his father for bread, which father will give his child a stone? Instead, a good father will always give his child a good gift. After a few days, one of the local polytechnics gave me a call and asked me for an interview. By God’s grace, I was granted a place in a course that I desire!
This was when I really experienced the resurrection power of Jesus. When my dream to get into a local polytechnic seemed dead, God did a miracle and resurrected it, showing me that he is my God. I knew that God is very real.
My blessings did not stop here. God continued to bless me in my academics, empowering me to excel and get great results. Last year, I had a total GPA of 3.9 out of 4! This placed me on the director’s list of the school, which signifies the top 10% of the cohort.
All these would never be possible without God. He allowed me to go through a test so that I can be a testimony to the people around me. Likewise, I believe that there are some of you that may feel that you are in a hopeless situation, but friends, if God can make a way for me, He can and will make a way for you too.
As a closing, I want to encourage all of you with a verse -
Hebrews 13:5 (AMP)
“For He(God) himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you uo nor leave you without support. (I will) not, (I will) not, (I will) not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let you down (relax my hold on you)! (Assuredly not!)”
